Disney Animation had been pursuing Buddy Hackett ever since The Music Man (1962). He was offered an array of roles including Kaa from the Jungle Book (1967), Friar Tuck from Robin Hood (1973) and Mr. Snoops from The Rescuers (1977). When asked about his experience playing Scuttle in The Little Mermaid (1989) Hackett said it was “one of the best experiences of my life. I should have been drawn a long time ago.”
